The YMCA’s dedication to America’s armed forces began in 1861 with the Civil War, when a handful of YMCA members voluntarily provided relief services to men in uniform. The first permanent Army YMCA was established at Fort Monroe, Va., in 1889. These services continue to expand today.Read more

The Armed Services YMCA promotes strong kids, strong families and strong communities by offering a variety of programs and services aimed at ensuring a high-quality of life for our military members and their families.

5. Where are the ASYMCA branches located?

A majority of the services offered to military families by the ASYMCA are provided at the branch and affiliate level. The ASYMCA maintains 16 branch locations, nine affiliated Community YMCAs and nine Department of Defense (DoD)/ Department of Homeland Security (DoHS) affiliates worldwide. ASYMCA’s national headquarters are located in Alexandria, Va. From its national headquarters, ASYMCA also offers one of its signature Operation Hero tutoring/mentoring programs at Fort Belvoir, Va.
