Holiday Toy Program

A Marine was referred to the ASY by a few people who knew he and his family was having financial difficulties. When he came by, he explained that unfortunately due to an error in the system, the DoD did not recognize his status as Active Duty and had not paid him for two months. Although he and his family did not have to worry about rent because they lived on base, they had used their savings to cover all their other bills; including food for their five children. It was in the system for the Marine to receive back pay but since it was during Christmas time, the Holidays had prevented it from coming through yet. Since they could not afford unnecessary items, the Marine and his wife did not have any gifts for their children for Christmas. The ASY registered this Military family for their Holiday Toy Program and provided them with a meal, toys, clothing, and gift cards. The Military spouse told the ASY through tears that, “We are truly blessed to receive this help. I have been so depressed and worried and this is a huge stress reliever. I prayed a lot and the ASY has answered my prayers. I am truly thankful.” The family has not forgotten about the ASY and has since volunteered for other events to help give back to Military families.
