Playmorning,
also known as “Mommy and Me,” provides a casual setting
for young moms to meet each other, share common interests and concerns,
and develop needed friendships as they move from location to location.
Families away from home and dealing with the stresses of military life
can attend this free, mobile outdoor program to develop social and
support networks that are entertaining and educational for them and
their children.
Sessions meet for two hours at playgrounds or community centers in military
housing. During each session, children and parents work together on parent-child
activities such as puzzles, games, dress-up, circle and song time, independent
art centers, and physical development play.
Each session
is staffed by a professional who teaches parenting skills, facilitates
discussion, and distributes handouts on a wide range of parenting
and child development related topics, such as age-appropriate behavior,
discipline, nutrition, growth and development, and communication and
community resources.
