The Fort Campbell Armed Services YMCA’s 2013 summer field trip was awesome. This year we went to Venture River and Patti’s 1880s Settlement. We packed our swimsuits, sunscreen and towels and headed off for our 45 minute trip to Eddyville, Kentucky for the first part of our adventure.
Venture River is in Eddyville, Kentucky and is Western Kentucky’s only waterpark. They have a 480,000 gallon Hurricane Wave Pool, Dueling Demon Speed Slides an endless Old Man River, body and tube slides and a Pleasure Island Kiddie Pool with a play structure with interactive water features and kid’s castle with slides just for them. We spent half of our day playing in the water and having a wonderful time.
At 3pm we were changed and ready to start the next part of our adventure to Patti’s 1880s Settlement. So we loaded the bus and headed to Grand Rivers, Kentucky which was only about 20 minutes away. We got there and were welcomed by Patti’s staff. We were given a short message about their grounds and then we all dispersed to enjoy ourselves. Patti’s 1880s Settlement is a recreated historical log cabin village. They have two restaurants to choose from, Patti’s or Bill’s, an arcade, Arielle’s Miniature golf with rock climbing wall, remote control boats, lush gardens and unique shops. All staff are dressed in 1880s attire, so the experience is very unique. We so appreciate the staff making us feel very special for our visit with them.
At 6:30pm we headed back to Fort Campbell…we had a great time on the adventure, but we were all ready to get back home. We are looking forward to planning next year’s summer field trip…I wonder, where we will go next?
