This event has such a meaningful purpose. Here’s a sample of what it means to our participants.

“I want to thank you and all the sponsors for a great day.  I went on the trip year before last and had a great time and looked forward to going this year.  I was unable to participate last year. I am a Vietnam era veteran and can remember those returning from Vietnam were told not to wear your uniform when you returned to California because we would be spit on and harassed by the protesters.  It was heartwarming to be received as we were yesterday and be treated the way we were.  Again I thank all those who had a part in making this a great day for me and the others like me.  With my disabilities there are many things I can no longer do.  But this Hearts for Hero’s, I look forward too and really have a good time with all who are involved.  Thanks for what you do.”  Harry Slaughter

Thank you to our sponsors for making it all possible.

Father-Daughter Military Ball @ The Westin
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

This year’s ball was a beautiful SOLD OUT event!  Thank you all for purchasing your tickets and joining us for an evening in Paris. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Please check back for next year’s ball.

Each year we join some of our Armed Services YMCA branches in executing the time honored tradition known as the Father Daughter Ball. There is nothing more special than military dads in full dress uniform making their little girls feel like a princess for a day. The time spent together gives them a chance to bond and connect without the distractions of everyday life and makes for memories they will never forget.

We are proud to be a part of these memories and invite you and your daughters to join us from 6 to 9 pm on June 25th at the beautiful Westin Hotel in Town Center, Virginia Beach for “A Night in Paris”. This year’s theme promises to whisk you away to the city of lights for fun filled evening with dinner, dancing and prizes. This event is for military dads only and daughters ages 3-18.

Dress for the event is formal so that means dress uniform (summer) for the dad and a gown or fancy dress for the girls.

The Father-Daughter Ball 2014 was a sold out event! Thank you to all of the fathers, daughters, volunteers, sponsors and staff who made this beautiful event one that impacts the local military community in such a positive way.

We would like to thank our sponsors for not only making this event possible, but for making it better each year. We look forward to spending “A Night in Paris” with you this year. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor and helping us bring this theme to life, download the sponsorship packet. Thank you. 2015_ball_sponsor_packet

Five Star Military Family Recognition Luncheon @ Westin Virginia Beach Town Center
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Do you know an outstanding military family who is always there to offer a helping hand to others? A family who volunteers in their community or within their command. We want to celebrate them at our Annual Five Star Military Family Recognition Luncheon in November. Each year we select a family from each branch of the military who best represents their branch by serving others.

The family can be nominated by their command, by business, civic leagues or non profit organizations. The nominees are are vetted through a selection committee comprised of representatives from our Major Community Partners. The winning families are then honored at the luncheon.

We need your help in finding these special people in our community. To nominate an outstanding military family just click here and tell us all about them.

Selection Criteria: Active duty E-6 or below and with a minimum of 1 year of service,  Family must exemplify integrity and the core values of their branch of service, Nominated family should have a record of community service and be available to attend the ceremony on November 6th at the Westin Town Center in Virginia Beach.

Thanksgiving Assistance @ Military Circle Mall
12:00 am

The Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads has an extensive Thanksgiving Assistance program that provides a turkey and all of the fixings for military families in need. The program relies heavily on food drives and monetary donations from the community to provide this outreach each year. Thanks to donations from Serco, Seven-Eleven, Ovation Brands, Navy Federal Credit Union, Geico, Bradley Morris and local military commands, we were able to provide a full Thanksgiving meal to 525 families in 2014.

Annually, we receive over 1000 requests for assistance. Requests are generated by military commands and forwarded to our office. If you are looking for assistance, please contact your senior enlisted command representative. Referrals will be handled by our Fleet Readiness Director Jamie Brown.

Our goal for 2015  is to raise $15,000 in cash donations from the community and 1000 each of specific food items. If you have a group or business that would like to partner with us by holding a food drive for 2015, please contact our Special Events Coordinator Chrystal Lewis for specific instructions. Posters and boxes are available upon request.
