Community Centers Testimonials
“The Armed Services YMCA programs offered in Norfolk have helped me tremendously with the everyday stresses of being a military wife. It gives me a place to take my children, to play and meet other parents that are going through the same things. The fitness classes also give me another way to de-stress, and let off steam as well as try to live a healthy lifestyle. The programs are so very important to me and my family especially on yucky days when we can’t get to the park in the neighborhoods. And then when my one child is out of school in the summer it is great to bring her to the center, she calls it school as well. My children and I love the staff and how involved they are with the children. And the time they put into the program and the crafts they provide for the different classes. I can’t say enough about them.” – Michelle Marggraff
“My name is Diana Vargas Pond, I’m 29 years old, and I’m a Navy wife. I have a son who is almost 2 years old. When I moved to military housing here in Oceana I didn’t have friends and I was really bored. When I found out about the fitness classes at the YMCA I was happy because it was very close by, and unlike other places they watched my son, and I got to meet other military wives that were very friendly. Last year my husband was deployed for 9 months, but those 9 months went by so fast because I was busy working out and meeting new awesome people. Even my son gets excited when we get to go to the building every day. Since I started working out I lost weight and every day I feel happier with my body. I have to add that the instructors are incredible people that enjoy what they do. Every day that I work out is a good day where I see a smile from people and of course because I’m doing something for me, for my body.” -Diana Vargas Pond
