Community Center Programs

Community Centers field trip

The ASY has three community centers in three geographic locations in Hampton Roads, each in a military housing area. The community centers offer no-cost programs that encourage healthy living, education, and social connections for stay-at-home military spouses and their preschool children. Through group fitness classes spouses are able to let off steam and learn to relax in a healthy way. Another popular class is the “Mommy and Me” craft time where moms and kids work on a project together. We also provide opportunities for child care respite and allow the military spouses the opportunity to spend a couple hours doing whatever they’d like to. Typically, they might work on homework (college students), do scrap booking, sewing, craft activities, or just simply socialize with the other adults there. We also offer occasional training classes for the participants to take part in. While the military spouses are learning balance & letting off steam, we are working with their pre-school children to teach skills that will be necessary to be ready for kindergarten.

Participants relate that the community centers become their family away from home and are instrumental in keeping their stress levels as low as possible.

The schedule & classes offered at each center varies. Click on the links below for individual site information.
