Child Development

The Armed Services YMCA is recruiting for our Child Development for the Before and After School team at our Sewells Point Elementary location. Lead Counselor/Bus Driver  

Hours: Split shift Mon-Fri 7am-9am and 2:45pm-6pm

The Lead Teacher/Bus Driver (CDL NOT REQUIRED) is a part-time position and is responsible for the safety, care and transportation of the children in the Child Development Program under the guidance of the Program Director. This position is open at our Sewells Point location, but travel to our main office in Virginia Beach may occasionally be required. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Daily communication with parents and children
  • Communicate program concerns and problems to supervisor
  • Assist children with homework daily
  • Encourage children to use self-help skills where applicable
  • All bus drivers must go through a training process with the lead bus driver
  • Head counts of all passengers must be done while entering and exiting the bus
  • Keep the first aid supplies current
