8Parent Participation Preschool is provided by our Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, U.S. Army Schofield Barracks/Wheeler Army Airfield and Marine Corps Base Hawaii branches. It is a program designed for parents to help their child(ren) transition from home to school while working side-by-side with them. Our dedicated teachers and teachers’ aides provide a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment which helps to give children a positive beginning to their education. Children must turn three by the end of December to be considered for the current school year.  There are currently three different phases to our Parent Participation Preschool;

 

Pueo

Most traditional preschool program. 100% parent participation.  Teacher leads circle

shapes

letters

music

movement

writing

story time.

During centers, teacher has different centers set up each week based on the theme.  Parent is there to work with their children to make sure child is engaged and completing each task with assistance if needed.  One staff to ten children/parent.  Healthy snack – no peanuts.  Two hour session twice a week   $80.00 a month.

 

Honu

Two staff to ten children twice a week three hour a session for $130.00 a month.  Children need to be able to;

Recognize & identify all colors, shapes

Recognize & identify all letters

Rote count to 10

Understand meaningful counting

Able to hold and control a pencil

Write a few legible letters

Can follow directions

Can focus on a task for at least 5 minutes

Honu class focuses on phonics, basic math skills, and writing

 

Nai’a

Two staff to ten children twice a week three hour session for $130.00 a month

Children need to be able to:

All the above as well as:

Phonics

Able to write spoken letters

Nai’a children focuses on recognizing site words, blended sounds, basic sentence structure, math, and writing spoken words.

**** Children will need to be assessed prior to entering Honu or Nai’a
