Angels of the Battlefield Awards

Each year, the Armed Services YMCA honors military men and women who administer life-saving medical treatment to our troops on the front lines at the Annual Angels of the Battlefield Gala.
The Armed Services YMCA works with the military services to select Corpsmen, Medics and Pararescuemen from the Army, Army Reserve, Navy, Navy Reserve, Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air National Guard and Army Guard, who accepted the awards on behalf of their fellow corpsmen and medics for their dedication and commitment to service. Staff Sergeant Jack Williams, a bronze star recipient for exceptional meritorious service in Afghanistan, and 2012 Angels of the Battlefield recipient shared,
“It is an honor to be selected to represent the entire medical corps. And the Armed Services YMCA does such great work for military families at their branches; I wish we had one where I am currently stationed, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.”
“Our medical services personnel are responsible for providing first aid and frontline trauma care on the battlefield. They are the wounded warrior’s best friend, the calming presence in the fury of a firefight, the first to respond to pain and tragedy,” said Eugene Habiger, General, USAF (Ret.), former chairman of the National Board of Directors of the ASYMCA. “These heroes — these angels — are the first to turn back, to risk their own lives for the sake of others, and we recognize them for their service, their dedication, their sacrifices and their bravery.”
