Woman’s Day Operation Holiday Joy
” I would like to thank Woman’s Day Readers for their Holiday Support, allowed companionship and family bonding before my husband deploys. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your recognition means the world to us.”
- An Air Force Family at Altus Air Force Base
We would like to thank Woman’s Day for their ninth annual Woman’s Day/Armed Services YMCA drive on behalf of military families in need. Every penny goes to providing Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas presents for junior enlisted service members and their families
Without their support in 2012:
- Turkeys would not have made it into the homes of 1400 Soliders in El Paso
- There would not have been a Turkey giveaway for servicemembers at Hampton Roads, VA
- There would not have been a holiday mean to feed 350+ families at Altus AirForce Base
- There would not have been emergency food supplies for military families in need at San Diego- area bases
Staff Sgt. Allen Labeth at Fort Bliss minces no words about what the annual turkey and Thanksgiving food basket giveaway means to him and his family.
“It’s a blessing,” said Labeth, who is married with five children.
Labeth, a Vernon, Texas, native, and his family were among 1,400 recipients of donated turkeys and gift baskets stuffed with nonperishable food items on Tuesday at Fort Bliss. The giveaway provided soldiers and their families with all the
makings for a traditional Thanksgiving feast. “It would be a stretch (without this help), especially this time of year and with five kids to buy Christmas gifts for,” Labeth said. “This is absolutely awesome. It’s the community coming together for soldiers.”
