Secret Santa

This past holiday season my husband Kelly and I sat down after the kids were in bed and talked budget for the holidays. When we crunched the numbers we realized that this Christmas was not going to be the best we ever had. Though we have always tried to teach our kids that the holidays are more about giving than receiving, it still weighed heavy on our hearts that we couldn’t do much for our kids that year. One day Virginia approached my husband and I about a Secret Santa program that she believed we would qualify for. We filled out the form like we were buying a lottery ticket, wishing for the best, without much hope. A week later we received a call asking when we could come by to pick up a sack of kids’ Christmas toys and clothing! I thought I was going to cry! The holidays turned out to be the most humbling and appreciative we have ever had. Not only did we have the blessing of having the ASYMCA there for us, we also got to see the many things they did for so many other families. I felt like the Grinch, that my heart grew 10X that holiday season. – Vickie
