Committed to strengthening our community, the Alameda Armed Services YMCA has programs and services designed to meet the needs of military service members and their families. Conveniently located on-base in an Alameda Coast Guard family housing unit, our Y serves residents of both Alameda Coast Guard Housing and Alameda Coast Guard Island. While the majority of our participants are Junior USCG enlisted members (E-5 and below), we welcome families from other military branches. Free and low-cost programs are designed by military families for military families.

PROGRAMS

Early Childhood Development Programs

Learn, grow and thrive! Dedicated, knowledgeable teachers make the most of each child’s day. Our on-post housing unit is equipped with everything needed to keep your little ones engaged. Activities such as circle time, story time, art, science and outdoor play provide children with opportunities to discover who they are and what they can achieve.

Ensuring activities and programs are developmentally appropriate, we offer three classes:

Little Tykes (9 months – 18 months) meets M, W, F 9am-11am

Toddlers (18 months – 3 years) meets M, W, F 9am-11:30am

Preschoolers (3 years – 5 years) meets M, W, F 9am-noon

After School

Put play in their day! Our afterschool programs are designed to give school-age children an opportunity to have fun with their friends. Activities vary based on children’s interests and include arts and crafts, sports, and cooking classes.

Open to Kindergarten – 5th graders, meets Wednesdays from 2:00pm-3:30pm

Operation Hero

Operation Hero is an onsite after-school program, which focuses on character development and skill building within military children who have been identified by school personnel and parents exhibiting low self esteem, or difficulty adjusting both academically and socially in the school environment. Curriculum is designed to help children handle the challenges of military life, provide tools to help them succeed in school, and help develop a positive self-image while improving social and communication skills..

Date Night

Fun for all! Parents can enjoy some time alone while their children play with friends. Date Night is offered for ages 6 months and up and lasts 3 hours every 3rd Friday of the month. Dinner is provided. Invest in some couple time, or some “me” time while your child has a blast with their friends. Sign-in early because we fill up every Friday!

Special Occasions

Celebrate with your Y family. Being away from home and your loved ones can be difficult, especially during the holidays. Join fellow military families for special occasions, including Halloween, Christmas, potlucks, and many other get-togethers throughout the year.

Our Greatest Need:

While we are truly appreciative of the funding we currently receive, there are a few items on our wish list. Because our programs are in such high demand, we have noticed that the heavy usage has worn down furniture and carpeting. We would love to be able to reinvest in program furniture and flooring, realizing that many families will benefit from a renovation to our Armed Services YMCA. Give back to the best non-profit around. Know that your investment will be enjoyed by many.
