ASYMCA Programs:

Ball Gown Boutique:
An important function military families look forward to attending is the occasional military ball. Often times these balls can be a costly expense that some military families can’t afford. In an effort to ease the financial burden on these military families, the Liberty County Armed Services YMCA has created a “Ball Gown Boutique”. This Boutique will serve as a rental store, using donated ball gowns and dresses, for spouses to rent a gown instead of purchasing one. The cost of the rental will be minimal, and used to cover cleaning expenses.

Military Outreach:
The ASYMCA provides opportunities for facilities and pool usage for the following programs: Unit PT, Drown Proofing, Organizational Days, FRG meetings and functions and military functions.

Early Learning Readiness Program:
The Early Learning Readiness Program is a new program which provides informal family, friend, and neighbor caregivers of children with the tools to ensure that the children in their care will enter and succeed in a school environment. Through this program, these caregivers are also providing social development skills, as well as introducing them to resources that will help them provide a stimulating home environment that facilitates developmental growth. This program instills in its’ participants a lifelong love for learning through play.

Biggest Need:
Our biggest need is for our Freedom Friday program. In the past we were able to offer a “free” event of child watch for our spouses of deployed families. This program ran from 5-9pm on the second Friday of every month and gave spouses an opportunity to go out, run errands or just rest. Because this event was free it allowed families to not have to worry about the expense of childcare. Currently we are running the program as fee based but those families of multiple children aren’t able to afford the program so our numbers have declined. As an ASYMCA we would like to give back to our deployed spouses and give them at least one day a month were they can have some time to their selves and be rewarded for the sacrifices they give on a daily basis.

Additionally we would like to begin a new program and that would be a Mother Daughter Tea or Father/Daughter Dance to be held annually. We feel that the military child should be granted one special day to spend with their mother or father. We are seeking sponsors and donors for this event.

“I have a three year old daughter and she absolutely loves coming to “Explore My World”. The classes have helped her speak more Spanish. when she sees the YMCA bus out front of the building she begins to sing the “Good Morning” song used during circle time. She is always asking if her friends have arrived at classes. She loves to do her “homework” and play with her friends.”

“We love the opportunities the Y has to offers for military families. Events such as Parent’s Night Out, Freedom Friday and Saturday Escape give us “spouses of deployed soldiers” a chance to “get away” and have some “me time”. The discounts provided by the Y for activities such as gymnastics, soccer, etc are very helpful because it allows my child to be involved in numerous activities”. Keeping the kids of deployed family’s active and engaged help during a difficult time such as deployment”.
