2013 ASYMCA Camp Update:

In 2013 the ASYMCA was awarded a $200,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. The award to Armed Services YMCA  reflects the ongoing commitment of Newman’s Own Foundation to organizations serving military service personnel, veterans, and their families. The impact this funding will have on Operation Outdoors military family participants will have is immeasurable.  These funds have already equipped   778 young troops and military children with  learning and bonding opportunities, coping mechanisms to help them deal with the challenges of military life, as well as memories that will last a lifetime that have helped them discover the hero inside.  We thank Newman’s Own Foundation for their nearly 20 years of support for organizations that help our nation’s troops and their families.

Our friends at the USO generously funded Armed Services YMCA Warrior Weekend Camps at Fort Riley, Hampton Roads and Fort Sill for over 200 wounded warrior military families.  Reports and impact numbers are still coming in, but based on preliminary information they were wildly successful. Thank you for your support of the ASYMCA, we are proud to receive our 7th Annual 4 Star Charity Rating by Charity Navigator, a distinction held by only the top 2% of charities nationwide.

One military mom shared after the Armed Services Y Operation Outdoors program, “My daughter was fortunate to experience that last week and the benefits of one day, let alone a week, are huge in her world right now. With all the challenges our kids face, this helped her tremendously with her coping skills and self esteem issues she’s currently having. She was provided with many tools and resources she can use now and in the future.”
