Healthy Kids Day
For Healthy Kids Day, the Military Families who participate in the ASY Parent/Child Interactive Classes spend the day on our playground learning and practicing in healthy habits. At our last Healthy Kids Day, the ASY had three Marine volunteers that manned the activities station for the children. These stations were soccer, a bean bag toss, and the parachute game. These Marines made sure to clarify with the ASY staff that they only had to help with their station and that would be all that was required of them. However, by the end of the day the Marines were having such a great time that they even began playing on the toys with the kids and creating other games for them to play. When the day was over and all the kids were gone, they admitted that although they had wanted to volunteer, they didn’t think that Healthy Kids Day was something they would enjoy. After a few years of hard training, they had forgotten what it was like to be a kid and just spend the day playing.
