Thank You For Your Service
The Thank You For Your Service program, which runs every week, has offered some Military families much needed financial relief. One particular week happened to fall right before payday, when it seems the food staples begin running the lowest. One Military wife, who has infant twins, stopped by at the end of the day to see if there was any food left over that she could pick up. By chance the ASY had also just received several bags of baby food that they were getting ready to put out. This mother asked if she could take some along with the other groceries. Since there hadn’t been a huge request for baby food from anyone, the ASY offered to give her all that they had. The mother at first refused to take all of it, but finally admitted through tears to the ASY that she and her husband spend about $400 a month on baby food alone for their twins. This doesn’t include diapers they also buy, plus they have two other children at home to feed. She said, “You have no idea what this means to me. Between the diapers and food I sometimes feel like we are drowning in bills. Since [my husband] is only a junior Marine he doesn’t make that much money. I just can’t even tell you how much this helps.”
