During the 2012 summer, the ASY helped the Wounded Warriors enjoy some time at the local golf course on base. One particular Marine had a physical condition that would cause his muscles to constantly contract involuntarily. Because of this his body would frequently shake. He had such a great personality and made everyone he came across laugh so hard that you hardly noticed the shaking after a while. But whether he was walking, sitting, standing, talking, or eating, it was always there. With the help of the ASY, he began golfing with a few other Marines from his Unit. One day, his Commanding Officer came into the ASY office and told the staff that you would never recognize this Marine on the golf course because whenever he stood over the ball while he was playing, he would stop shaking. As it turns out, those few moments of concentration it took for him to get ready to hit, was enough to calm his muscles and stop them from shaking. Just enough time to help him remember what he used to think “normal” was again. Golf has since become a passion of his, and although he has retired and moved home, the ASY is quite certain he still plays.
