Operation Hero: After School Enrichment

ASY recognizes that after-school enrichment programs assist military children who face unique challenges due to the military lifestyle of frequent moves and parent deployments. The Twentynine Palms ASY’s after school enrichment program is called Operation Hero. The program provides mentoring and homework and reading assistance, as well as fun filled activities that explore military lifestyles in a positive environment for those in 2nd-6th grades. Operation Hero strives to instill an ethic of service in each of the program’s participants. Students take part in projects throughout the year that demonstrate the importance of giving back to those in need in our community. Past projects have included decorating cookies for single Marines and Sailors who aren’t able to go home for the holidays, making tote bags for pediatric cancer patients, and filling East baskets for children in need. Classes are 10 weeks long and held at Condor Elementary School.

Operation Hero Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction

As part of Operation Hero’s efforts to emphasize the importance of service, each year the students host their family and friends at a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction. The students put their hospitality to the test as the waiters and servers at the dinner. The entire community is invited to enjoy a night of great food and the chance to bid on prizes donated to the program through the generosity of local businesses and individuals. Proceeds from the event help support Operation Hero throughout the year.
