2014 Heart to Heart Luncheon and Fashion and Show

A military wife entered the ballroom at the Desert Princess Resort where the 2014 Heart to Heart Luncheon was held on March 8, 2014, but her heart wasn’t in it. Her mind was on her husband at home, an eight combat tour veteran who was being medically retired from the Marine Corps. He was suffering from severe post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury, and that day had had trouble even remembering the most basic of tasks, how to fill out a check.

The spouse was worried about leaving him that day, even for the few hours attending Heart to Heart would take, but by the end of the luncheon she had found some relief. She was introduced to a woman who works for an organization training service dogs, and had received information about getting a dog to help her husband heal. Though she was unsure at first, attending Heart to Heart gave that spouse a little bit of hope and a lot of support, which is exactly what the event organizers hope to do each year. One hostess for the event said with tears in her eyes “If we only helped that woman, if all of this only accomplished only that one thing, then it was worth it.”

This year approximately 200 military spouses and Active Duty women attended the Heart to Heart Luncheon. They were treated to an afternoon of friendship and laughter with entertainment provided by the Rhinestone Cowgirls and singer Gina Notrica, and a moving address given by Karon Kanadjian, a military spouse and spousal abuse survivor. Heart to Heart is offered each year as a thank the women of our military for their service and sacrifice and as a way to tell them that they are appreciated and supported even though they may be far from home.

Each year participants in the Heart to Heart Luncheon leave feeling truly pampered, and this year was no different. Participants received VIP treatment from the moment they entered the room when they were greeted by bolo tie- wearing escorts to go along with the event’s Western theme. Every lady left with a lovely gift bag which included a gift certificate for a facial, a $25 Kohl’s Gift card and more. The ladies also had chances to win fabulous door prizes and gift baskets throughout the event and watched six of their own model in a fashion show presented by Kohl’s. This year’s event was again a warm and welcoming afternoon for the women of Twentynine Palms and most importantly a wonderful way to tell our military women how much they are appreciated.
