Father Daughter Gala

The Father Daughter Gala is a highly anticipated formal ball we’re very proud to host in the Anchorage and Fairbanks areas. It’s an opportunity for fathers to spend precious time with their daughters, strengthen the father-daughter bond, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Child participants must be the dependent of an active duty, guard, or reserve service member. A significant male role-model is welcome to fill in for fathers who are not able to attend. This event does not have any age restrictions, but is ideal for ages 4 and up.


Program Information

Around the Table: The Basics of Comfort Cooking

Discover the magic of turning everyday ingredients into budget-friendly comfort food. The ASYMCA of Alaska and April Gettys invite you to join us in April’s kitchen for an introduction to creative comfort cooking and collaborative conversation.

Session 1: Pickles & Bacon Making
August 20  from 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Session 2: Red Sauce & Lasagna
August 22  from 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Session 3: Soup and Cookies
August 24  from 10:00am to 1:00pm

There is a $10 registration fee for each session. Your registration fee covers the cost of all materials, and your creations go home with you! Sign up for one, or all! Space is limited to 10 people per session, so don’t wait to register! To register, visit our website here.


Warrior Zone Closures

The ASYMCA Office at the Warrior Zone will be operating on a limited schedule for the week of August 6.

Temporary Schedule for the week of August 6:
Monday: Open 0730-1600
Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: 1200-1600
Friday: Closed

If you have need of faxing or notary service, program information, or Food Pantry access, please visit our DG Cuddy Welcome Center on Luke Avenue, or contact our office at 552-9622 to arrange an appointment to access services at the Warrior Zone.

So many Balls, Banquets, and Brouhahas! What is a girl to wear? ASYMCA’s After 5 Boutique has you covered. The After 5 Boutique loans formal dresses in all sizes, and at no cost, to ensure every occasion is truly special. Shoes and accessories are also available to complete your look.  Please visit our Main Office and Welcome Center at 10449 Luke Avenue on JBER to browse our selection of ladies’ formal wear.
Ladies, ASYMCA also accepts donations for our After 5 Boutique! If you have gowns or accessories appropriate for a formal occasion that you no longer need, please donate them! It’s a great way to free up some valuable real estate in your closet, and your donation helps other ladies in your military community look fabulous for future events.

Bargain Shop Volunteers Welcome!

Our ASYMCA Bargain Shop on JBER is looking for volunteers! Summer time is hoppin’ at the Bargain Shop as families PCS in and out of JBER. There’s lots of different way that volunteers can help, including stocking, sorting, cleaning, and customer service. Volunteering at our Bargain Shop is a rewarding experience with benefits!

Navy Band Northwest Woodwind Trio: August 10 at 5:30pm and August 11th at noon in Town Square Park. The Navy Band Northwest Woodwind Trio, made up of performers Musician Second Class Stefan Lang from West Nyack, NY on bassoon, Musician First Class Edgardo Hernandez from Agues Buenas, Puerto Rico on Flute, and Musician First Class Jennifer Goins from Trenton, New Jersey, will be in Anchorage for two performances in Town Square Park.

Alyeska Blueberry Festival: August 18th and 19th from 11:00am to 8:00pm at the Alyeska Resort. Join us for the 11th Annual Blueberry Festival, a celebration of the lush blueberry season. This family-oriented outdoors event features free live music including headliners Hope Social Club, berry picking, local arts and crafts booths, tasty blueberry treats, beer and wine garden, hiking and biking, pie eating contest, blueberry creations contest and more! Whether you're in the mood for funnel cake or fine art, our local vendors will have what you're looking for.

SPARTA Presents: SPEAR Level 1 Suicide Prevention Training: Monday, August 13 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the BP Energy Center. SPARTA is an Alaska based, Veteran operated, nonprofit organization focused on preventing suicide among Veterans. Created by veterans using evidence-based principals, the SPEAR program helps participants understand the origin of suicidal thoughts and behavior as a response to prolonged suffering. Learn how to effectively talk to a person in crisis with dynamic role play supervised by professional trainers. In as little as two hours you can learn how to prevent suicide and save lives. Train with SPARTA and be an asset in the fight against suicide. This event recurs monthly through October on August 13, September 12, and October 16.
