Employment is considered a stabilizing factor for many military and transitioning families, yet military spouses experience unemployment at much higher rates than their civilian counterparts and little is known about the effects this and underemployment may have on their mental health and wellbeing.
This groundbreaking research seeks to educate decision-makers and employers on the unique mental health and wellbeing challenges military spouses may face and how meaningful employment may serve as a protective factor on their wellbeing.
Implications of not addressing wellbeing during one’s unemployment and underemployment can have reported consequences. This research also seeks to identify strategies to improve military spouse wellbeing during their employment journey, which is crucial especially now amid COVID-19.
