The African Drumming was a huge hit on February 9, 2022, for our FIVE STAR KIDS ACADEMY School- Age Care program. Our students loved clapping, dancing, and coming up with their own unique beats on the drum. They couldn’t stop raving about how cool it was to play on a drum that was over 100 years old - almost ten times their age, WOW!

On February 23, 2022, Tallwood High School students also dropped some knowledge on our School- Age Care students about historic African American inventors and spent some quality time talking and drawing with our students. In addition, the Tallwood Step Team came out to showcase their first step show for the 2021-2022 school year. The ASYMCA students loved to see the steppers stomp their feet and clap their hands to create cool beats without even using drums.

Old Dominion University’s Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. also came to show our students what their historically black sorority and fraternity is all about. The students loved playing soccer, basketball, and tag with the volunteers and also saw a different style of step from the previous.
