Support provides online, educational summer camp for military children at no-cost to families
FORT BRAGG, North Carolina — An award from the Community Grants Fund of Cumberland Community Foundation provided support for Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg’s Operation Camp, an online no-cost camp for military children.
Operation Camp originated after the Armed Services YMCA was unable to hold camp in-person due to the challenges of the coronavirus. The camp is targeted to children ages 5-11 and airs new content each weekday through YouTube. There is even a special segment daily called Operation Little Learners, aimed at children ages 18 months – 5 years to practice basic educational development around the alphabet and counting.
“We are so grateful for the Cumberland Community Foundation’s generous support,” said Jack Clevesy, Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg Executive Director. “Although the coronavirus has changed reality for children, their need for fun, stimulating learning has not changed. Operation Camp is designed to provide children with fun activities and engaging concepts they can try at home either individually or as a family.”
As part of the Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg’s commitment to military children, Operation Camp incorporates two of the organization’s core programming for military students – Operation Hero and Operation Little Learners. Operation Hero focuses on providing academic and emotional mentorship for children to tackle the unique challenges of military life, while Operation Little Learners empowers parents to be confident as their child’s first teacher and prepare military children for pre-school and kindergarten.
