From Quilts to Face Masks

April 17, 2020: The Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg is blessed to work with outstanding volunteers through numerous programs. Today, we would like to recognize our Operation Kid Comfort quilters for their continued support of military families through the challenges of Covid-19.

Operation Kid Comfort provides military children with a deployed parent a personalized no-cost quilt or pillowcase to ease the pain of separation. These quilts are assembled by quilters across the United States who selflessly dedicate their time and talents to support military children. Due to Covid-19 the program has temporarily closed to new registrants. However, our quilter volunteers have not stopped their support of military families.

Earlier this week we emailed quilters asking for their support in making masks (both sew and no-sew) for Fort Bragg service members and families in isolation/quarantine. They answered the call.

Over the coming weeks, we expect to see hundreds of homemade cloth face masks arrive at our office from quilters throughout the country. We cannot express how incredibly grateful we are for their generosity and support - thank you to each and every person who has donated homemade masks for Fort Bragg families.

If you are interested in supporting the combined efforts of the Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg and Womack Red Cross, there are a couple ways you can help.

  1. Donations: Consider donating cloth face masks. We accept both sew and no-sew styles which can be found on the CDC's website here. We are also in need of individually wrapped snack and flavored beverages. (Think cans of soda, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc). All donations should be dropped off at the Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg office via appointment to avoid unnecessary visits to Womack Army Medical Center.
  2. Spread the word: Please consider sharing this blog with your friends and family. The more people who know about the opportunity to get involved, the greater the support for Fort Bragg families.

Other Armed Services YMCA Programs during Covid-19:

Food Pantry: While our offices will remain closed to the public, families in need of support can simply fill FB_FoodPantry_Supportout an online form via this link to request non-perishable food support. Once completed, the family will be contacted at the email address provided to confirm a pick up date and time along with specific pick-up instructions.
