Future Engineer in the Making

HR2021 Vincent Award Pressentation

At the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) of Hampton Roads, we have many incredible students who participate in our Before and After School programs. One incredibly talented young man is seventh-grader, Vincent H, who has been participating in programs at the ASYMCA for the past 3 years. On any given day, Vincent is at his table with an organized team around him putting their creative minds to work with the interlocking plastic discs called Brain Flakes. With these Brain Flakes, Vincent has created clever structures, big and small, from fighter planes to submarines to aircraft carriers. For these larger structures, Vincent begins with a blueprint in his head and goes to work. Before long, his table is surrounded by fascinated and like-minded creators who begin to follow his leadership as he instructs them on how they can assist in completing his various masterpieces.

Over the last few months, Vincent has created the USS Independence LCS-2, the German battleship Scharnhorst and even the battle of Germany's largest battleship, the Bismarck vs the British HMS Hood.

Earlier in the year, Vincent single-handedly created the battleship pictured below, and after the ASYMCA shared it on our social media platforms, Brain Flakes creators reached out and featured Vincent on their homepage. Later, they rewarded Vincent with a brand-new box of Brain Flakes for him to build his next creation. To add to the excitement, the ASYMCA of Hampton Roads presented this amazing Future Engineer recognition with his mom and friends in attendance. We know Vincent's ingenuity and leadership will take him far, and we are proud that he's part of the ASYMCA family. Congratulations, Vincent.
