Food Security with Lockheed Martin
“Just that bag of food added so much and let me know we are going to be okay for this week.”
Food insecurity is complex. Challenges of high unemployment rates amongst military spouses, the inability to find low-cost childcare at new duty stations, and unexpected costs associated with moving or other life changes means some military families need additional support from time to time. The Armed Services YMCA provides military families healthy, well-balanced meals when times are tough.
Lockheed Martin leads by example as they partner with the Armed Services YMCA to ensure that no military family goes hungry. Their support funds programs at local branches providing ongoing, sustainable food distribution activities. To date, Lockheed Martin has supported 33,000 military families throughout the country with nearly 1 million pounds of food.
Joining Forces Initiative with Dr. Jill Biden
On Wednesday, March 9th we were honored to co-host an event at Fort Campbell with First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, for families of soldiers of the 101st Airborne deployed to Eastern Europe in support of our NATO allies. Her visit was part of Joining Forces, a White House initiative to support military families. Dr. Biden and ASYMCA leadership spent time with military families, thanking them for their sacrifice, listening to their needs, and providing an opportunity to connect with each other over dinner.
