Operation Little Learners is an interactive education program for parents and children.
Parents learn to be the primary educator of their child with tools to enhance child development and early learning, as well as parent-child bonding.
With the support of companies like USAA, Lift A Life, Alaska USA Foundation, and Pitney Bowes, children ages 2-5 participate in activities to enhance cognitive, emotional, social, motor and other key development skills.
As COVID-19 began, we were forced to close our program sites. You can only imagine how heartbreaking this was for our families and Armed Services YMCA staff. Knowing the importance of continued learning and parent-child bonding, our branches moved quickly to change the way in which they provided this learning opportunity.
As a result, Operation Little Learners went virtual - creating new online communities - and our families love it! They've enjoyed the daily activities, learning resources, and the ability to learn together while apart. The success of this effort has motivated us to pursue ways to continue and expand virtual learning opportunities.
This pandemic didn't stop us! Rather than create a barrier to education, it required us to move more quickly to bring a vision to fruition. For some time, we have discussed the need to create virtual learning opportunities. This is important because of the transient nature of military life. We want our families to have access to resources and educational tools no matter where they are. Most importantly, we want these new online communities to be safe for our young students.
