September 15, 2020: Today the Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg kicked off the 13-week fall session of Operation Little Learners. The program is designed specifically for military children ages 18 months to 5 years and their care giver to promote Pre-K and Kindergarten readiness and empower military spouses to be their child's first teacher.
The program is split into two sections, 18 month - 36 months and then 3 years to 5 years. This allows our Lead Teachers to focus on curriculum and skill building based on age and abilities. Due to Covid-19 we have limited class sizes in person, have social distancing policies in place, and extensive cleaning procedures to ensure the safety of military families.
Additionally, the ASYMCA is offering online resources and activities for families at home during the pandemic. "We know we cannot possibly serve all military families who want to participate in Operation Little Learners this fall," says Michelle Baumgarten, Associate Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg. "However, we don't want children's educational growth to stall or lag so we are providing weekly activities for all families on the waitlist to practice together from home. These include educational videos, links to crafts and skill-building activities at home, and so much more. We exist to strengthen our military families and we are adapting to ensure we continue to meet their needs."
