We look forward to summer camp all year long. Long, sunny days filled with friends, fun and laughter are our favorite kind of days. This summer is going to look a little bit different than past summers, but we are changing and adapting every day to find our way through this time of social distancing and increased health precautions. We thought you might be curious about what summer camp will look like at the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads this year, so we figured we'd give you a little sneak peek at what we've got planned.
Our Operation Summer Camp 2020 theme is WE'VE GOT TALENT and we have so many fun activities planned to showcase our kiddos' amazing and unique talents. Each weekly theme is centered around a talent with the enrichment activities focused on that talent. Our summer kicks off with We are LEADERS and ends with We are CARING. Over the course of the summer, our kiddos will be engineers and creators and book lovers. We've planned STEAM-based learning opportunities throughout each week as well as opportunities for physical activity, peer connection and self-directed play.
Your children's health and safety is our top priority. So, in order to maintain the highest level of care for all children, we are adhering to CDC Guidelines and best practices and screening all children upon arrival. Our camp registrations are limited to ensure the required six feet of physical distance between campers and facilitators. In addition to maintaining distance, we are sanitizing at regular intervals throughout the day and reinforcing regular hand washing. For more specific information on how we're doing this, please reference our SUMMER CAMP CHILD CARE FAQ.
To ensure that all of our kiddos are healthy and thriving, we are...
- conducting screenings upon arrival (including temperature checks) of all children and staff to ensure they are healthy and symptom free
- sanitizing at regular intervals throughout the day and at the end of each day
- providing opportunities to work on gross motor skills through directed physical activities and play
- facilitating STEAM based enrichment activities that emphasize creativity, fine motor skills and FUN
- encouraging self-directed play through a variety of curated toys, games and experiences
We're looking forward to another fun summer filled with opportunities for growth and connection while we explore and enhance our talents. For more information, or to register, contact Mrs. Katrina Cherry at (757) 464-9404 or kcherry@asymca.org or visit Operation Summer Camp 2020.
