The New River YMCA is not your average Y. They do not sell memberships and do not have a physical gym. Instead, they focus on serving local community needs. Located outside of Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, the New River YMCA sees 1,100 kids each day, many of those being children with a parent serving in the military. These kids participate in Pre-K readiness programming, attend before and after-school programs, participate in summer camps, and so much more.
The services the New River YMCA provide are critical to military families. Childcare programming allows military spouses to seek educational and employment opportunities. Curriculum in after-school care focuses on resiliency and building relationships—a challenge for military children who move 6 to 9 times during their school years. 2022 promises to bring additional programming to better serve the unique needs of military families who are stationed at Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point.
