Partnering for Impact:
Camp Carter, Fort Worth, Texas
Every child deserves the opportunity to experience the magic of camp!
YMCA Camp Carter is a 360-acre oasis located in the heart of Fort Worth. Thanks to a group of generous donors, the Armed Services YMCA sent 100 lucky military children from Fort Hood to Camp Carter for a week in June of 2022. Whether it be on the challenge course, archery range, canoeing, campfire or sleeping in cabins, YMCA Camp Carter creates a magical camp experience for military children.
However, this key Armed Services YMCA partner has a heart for those serving our country that goes beyond summer camp. Throughout the year, YMCA Camp Carter serves active duty, reserve and retired veterans from all branches of service coming from Fort Hood, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth and Fort Worth USMC Recruiting station. YMCA Camp Carter is working to establish year-round programs specifically for military families, including Parents Night Out, Military Marriage Retreats, Daddy & Daughter Dances, Santa’s Workshop for E5 and below, and more! All of these programs are designed to create a better community and family atmosphere at no or low cost to military families.
Matthias's Story
“I wanted to share this with you. My fifteen year old son wasn't overly enthused when I told him he had to leave his gaming system and friends for a week of sunshine, human interaction, and adventure. The day he was dropped off he even texted "never again." He was upset he was the oldest one there. I told him that meant he was a leader and to have fun.
"I didn't hear back from him until Sunday when I returned from a work trip. He hugged and said "thank you mom, I had a good time." I saw the pictures of him on social media and knew he was enjoying himself. Over the next week he has shared with us things about the camp. I am grateful for the experience he had. He has been happy and just my fun-loving son since he has gotten back.
"Thank you."
