5 November 2021 – On Thursday, October 28th Smithfield Foods and Armed Services YMCA hosted a food distribution and hiring event for the Fort Bragg military community including family members, transitioning service members and veterans. Over 500 attendees received a hot lunch and Smithfield protein products to take home from the company during Thursday’s event at the South Post Exchange.
“What an amazing turnout today”, said ASYMCA Executive Director, Jeremy Hester. “Smithfield served hot lunches and provided free take-home food bags to over 520 attendees – we are very thankful for their support of our Food Pantry, the ASYMCA and this installation”.
Today’s military families selflessly serve our country while experiencing two economic hardships – food insecurity and unemployment. Smithfield’s recent partnership with the Armed Services YMCA helps to combat both adversities while serving those who serve at Fort Bragg.
“Smithfield’s partnership with the Armed Services YMCA is a wonderful way for us to give back to military members, veterans and their families here in the Fort Bragg community who have selflessly given so much to our nation,” said Jonathan Toms, charitable initiatives manager for Smithfield Foods. “We were honored to take this opportunity to say thank you to these brave men and women with a hot meal and several Smithfield products to take home.”
This event was part of Smithfield’s Helping Our Heroes initiative, the company’s commitment to prioritize veteran employment and career development, help power veteran-owned businesses and strengthen the community and family support systems that veterans rely on every day. In support of the company’s commitment to hire 4,000 military veterans by 2025, Smithfield representatives provided careers information to veterans, transitioning military members and military spouses throughout Thursday’s event.
Thank you to Smithfield Foods for putting on such a great event for our military community and for your commitment to supporting military families.
