As part of a partnership between Tallwood High School Global Studies and World Languages Academy and the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads, high school students visited the regional office. Students from the Spanish Delegation of Madrid, Spain are spending a week with their American high school families to learn about culture here in Hampton Roads as part of a cultural exchange program.
During their stop at the ASYMCA Virginia Beach location on Tuesday afternoon, the high school students spent time with more than sixty elementary school aged students in our Before and After School Care Program. The high school students provided information about the landscape of Spain, the differences in the educational systems and heard about exciting opportunities at the Global Studies and World Languages Academy.
As a symbol of joining the two cultures, students enjoyed cupcakes that formed both an American Flag and a Spanish Flag with their new friends. Our Before & After School Care students also had the opportunity to learn and practice some new and favorite words in Spanish. All the students enjoyed Spanish songs and dances, and our elementary students were able to share some American favorites with their new friends as well.
