The Five Star Kids Academy, at the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads, offers school-age care in a safe and reliable learning-focused environment. Our goal is to support both cognitive development and social-emotional growth with opportunities for enrichment and connection through:
STEAM-based learning activities
Educational partnerships to promote literacy and academic achievement
Virtual learning and homework support
Daily physical activity
Opportunities for creativity, mindfulness and critical thinking
Engaging lessons that focus on character development and resilience
With many school divisions now opening for face-to-face instruction, there is a need for flexible child care options. We understand and will be here when you need us. Our program will continue to operate full-day, school-age care as well as Full Day Mondays + Before & After School Care on Tuesday through Friday in Virginia Beach. Before & After School Care in Norfolk will open at Sewells Point Elementary when schools reopen.
We're working closely with school divisions and parents to monitor the changing needs for reliable and fun child care. Our encouraging and consistent environment supports students as they complete and turn-in assignments and homework while providing enrichment opportunities for social and emotional connection and growth.

We recognize the unique character and temperament of every child, and actively engage each one in developmentally-appropriate activities to foster social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth. We consistently stimulate and challenge children, helping them to manage their emotions, problem solve to make good choices and enhance their resilience skills to be the best people they can be.
COVID-19 UPDATES - Per current child care guidelines, we are limiting class size to maintain social distancing and screening children daily upon arrival. Limited spaces are available. We are following all CDC guidance on sanitizing, social distancing and screening practices. The health and safety of our families is our primary concern. For more information on how we're doing this, check out our SCHOOL-AGE CARE FAQ.
