Comradery among peers is important to a strong military community. Wounded and Ill Veterans of all conflicts are provided a therapy respite outlet on the Chesapeake Bay. The Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads helps to create an environment for this unique military unit to rely upon each other and be strengthened by each other’s experiences.

“I want to thank you and all the sponsors for a great day. I went on the trip year before last and had a great time and looked forward to going this year. I was unable to participate last year. I am a Vietnam era veteran and can remember those returning from Vietnam were told not to wear your uniform when you returned to California because we would be spit on and harassed by the protesters. It was heartwarming to be received as we were yesterday and be treated the way we were. Again I thank all those who had a part in making this a great day for me and the others like me. With my disabilities there are many things I can no longer do. But this Hearts for Heroes, I look forward too and really have a good time with all who are involved. Thanks for what you do.”

“Thank-you to those that not only
gave their
time but had the heart to listen
our many stories and concerns.”
