Military Kid Strong!
Today was the last day of school. Summer is finally here! This coming Monday marks the beginning of camp season for the Armed Services YMCA Hawai`i with the launch of Camp Hero. The energy in our office is electric and camp spirit fills the air. We are definitely looking forward to meeting our campers and building self-esteem, confidence and a sense of belonging among our military youth.
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve while we as an organization continue to strengthen each member of our military `ohana.
To make a difference in the life of every camper, our camp staff has adopted three goals:
- Every camper will have a sense of belonging
- Every camper will form a positive relationship with a caring staff member
- Every camper will be given the opportunity to try new experiences and challenge her/himself to grow in confidence and teamwork and have a sense of achievement
Below is a week-at-a-glance for you to prepare your child for camp along with the camp specific information so you can take part in your child’s day and ask them how their camp experience was. After each day of camp, a staff member will email parents with a brief recap, reflections and questions to ask campers. We hope this will help you engage, connect and grow stronger together. We will also be posting candid photos and videos each day on our Facebook Page @armedservciesymcahawaii so stay tuned!
See you at camp! Where heroes don’t wear capes, they wear dog togs and each child is Military Kid Strong!
