Armed Services YMCA of San Diego is NOT government funded. Individual and corporate gifts sustain our mission of serving and strengthening military families.
In close coordination with installation commanders, the Armed Services YMCA tailors our programming to fill the highest priority gaps with low and no-cost programs and services including childcare, hospital assistance, counseling, emergency food and clothing assistance, education programs, as well as family, youth and teen programs.
Recognized as a top-rated charity by Charity Watch, Charity Navigator and Independent Charities of America, 89 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to support programs. The Armed Services YMCA depends on more than 10,000 volunteers providing over 112,000 hours each year to help implement programming and support at our 34 branch and affiliate locations. Volunteers are a vital part of our outreach and support efforts. We truly value the contributions volunteers make to in service to our active duty junior enlisted service members each and every day. Every year, members of our community volunteer network serve thousands of hours in a wide variety of different ways! Your hard work makes a truly positive impact on the lives of our active duty junior enlisted service members. Groups and individual volunteers participate in all of our outreach and support efforts here at the Armed Services YMCA San Diego .
Volunteers in our FYE programs can assist in day camps, toddler development programs, after school programs, quilting, our monthly Neighborhood Exchange food distribution, and special events such as Christmas You Missed, Back to School Supplies, or our annual Father-Daughter Dance. Individuals or groups may support FYE programs or events.
Volunteers at NMCSD assist with ward visiting, recreational therapy programs, therapy dog visits, one-on-one patient assistance, and behind the scenes administrative support. Only individuals may volunteer at NMCSD.
Our MVP is specifically designed to provide community volunteer opportunities for active duty military personnel only. Volunteers assist with ASYSD special events, our monthly Neighborhood Exchange food distribution program, and help partner organizations needing volunteer support.
We rely almost exclusively on sponsorships, private donations and grants. Join us in helping support the sacrifices of our troops and their families.
