ALCOHOL REHAB GUIDE
An informational web source dedicated to supporting and helping anyone battling alcoholism or co-occurring behavioral and mental health disorders.

AMERICAN MILITARY UNIVERSITY
Are you considering taking the next steps to further your education? American Military University can make that possible. They have over 200 programs and offer a Freedom Grant to U.S. active-duty service members, National Guard and Reservists.

CRISIS TEXT LINE
We all need support at one time or another. Use this FREE, 24/7 text line, for people in crisis in the United States. Simply text HOME to 741471 to be paired with a Crisis Counselor trained in helping individuals through many areas of life associated with trauma, anxiety, and depression.

FOODBANK OF SOUTHEASTERN VA
Food insecurity rates are high among military families. Never be too shy to get the help you and your family need. Use the foodbank resource to find food relief near you.

NAVY GENERAL LIBRARY PROGRAM
This program is all online. Powered through the Overdrive App, it provides a variety of audio and Kindle books. You must verify your active-duty military status and then you will be provided with a login and gain full access to the MWR Digital Library.

PATRIOT'S PANTRY
The Patriot’s Pantry, located within the ASYMCA of Hampton Roads, is a safe and welcoming place for active-duty military families to come to when financial hardships create a need for assistance. The pantry provides quick and healthy food staples as well as essential hygiene products and some fresh food items. All assistance is provided at NO COST with NO QUESTIONS asked.

VIRGINIA BEACH SOCIAL SERVICES
Virginia Beach Social Services division offers support to help families meet fundamental needs. Services include financial assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP), mental health assistance, childcare, foster care, behavioral health, as well as prepares adults to find and retain employment.


 

RESOURCES FOR MILITARY FAMILIES AND CHILDREN

BARRY ROBINSON CENTER
This premier behavior health center, located in Norfolk, is exclusively for military-connected youth. The BRC provides a residential treatment program for military connection youth with mental health issues, as well as providing other services.

BLUE STAR FAMILIES
Get involved in the community of like-minded individuals who can help you thrive as you serve. FREE membership allows military families access to exclusive freebies and other deals in your area. Available to Active-Duty and veteran families. Additionally, The Blue Star Families provides access to financial and food insecurity resources.

CAMP HELLO BELLO
Camp Hello Bello is a FREE resource for parents to find engaging videos and activities for the whole family to enjoy. They are themed and designed to help create memories from spending time together. New activity pages and videos are uploaded weekly to keep the fun varied and interesting.

LUNCH DOODLES
Calling kids of all ages to explore the World of Art. Mo Williams encourages children to explore ways of writing and creating. This is an easy, fun, and FREE way to keep children engaged in activities that keep them learning on their days off from school.

MARINER'S MUSEUM
Sail into the virtual time travel Voyages. Learn about different time periods, explorers, tools, and equipment needed to make various voyages through the Ancient Exploration to Modern Exploration. MORE

MILITARY ONESOURCE
Military OneSource provides so many wonderful services to assist military members and their families to stay well and thrive. Some services include confidential help with expert counselors, as well as help focused on family and relationships, moving and housing, education, employment, and more!

MY ACTIVE CHILD
New to the area? Not sure what to do with your kids? Using this link will provide parents with access to hundreds of current and upcoming events and activities the whole family can enjoy. Hampton Roads has a vast venue of interesting and fun places to visit and explore. Learning more about your surroundings helps to make a new home feel more LIKE HOME.

PEATC
The Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) supports Virginia’s military families with children with disabilities and the professionals who serve them by providing Virginia-specific information on special education and state disability services. Assistance is provided through individual consults, workshops and webinars, and statewide training. PEATC’s dedicated military outreach program partners with the VDOE to reach families stationed at all of the military installations in Virginia. PEATC’s services to families are free and confidential.

EDUCATION RESOURCES

CHILDREN OF FALLEN SOLDIERS
College scholarships and educational counseling is provided to children who have lost a parent in the line of duty. The vision for children of fallen patriots foundation is to ensure that every child of a fallen patriot receives all necessary college funding.

MILITARY CHILD EDUCATION COALITION
Ensure that your child is college-, work- and life-ready. MCEC collaborates with elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the country to provide programs and services to support military-connected youth. They also deliver professional development to meet the needs of students from colleges and universities, parents, and educational professionals.

MILITARY SPOUSE SCHOLARSHIPS
This may be right up your alley if you are a spouse of an active-duty service member looking to get back into the workforce. Get the financial support you need by applying for the Career Advancement Account Scholarship which provides up to $4000 to help pay tuition. This scholarship includes a FREE laptop that you keep when training is completed and even covers the cost of course materials, the national exam fees, and career development assistance.

STORY TIME FROM SPACE LIBRARY
Storytime is brought to you from SPACE! Is that possible? YES! You read that correctly! This site provides REAL children’s books, read to children by REAL Astronauts all the way from the International Space Station. Get your young space traveler excited about space exploration.

TUTOR.COM
This safe and secure resource provides access to expert tutors in over 150 subject areas. It is available to ALL Active-Duty Military Service Members and their children! Tutor.com provides FREE online tutoring and homework assistance 24/7.

VIRGINIA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY
Stay involved and encouraging in your child’s reading. The Virginia Beach Library can make that possible with new FUN and EXCITING books. Students may also join reading challenges that are self-paced.

 

 

DEPLOYMENT RESOURCES

THE COMFORT CREW FOR MILITARY KIDS
Military families experience many unique and challenging situations. The Comfort Crew was created to make sure that military families and their kids have the best resources available to help them through the tough situations of deployment, reintegration, reintegrating with an injury, losing a parent in war, and other unique challenges that the community faces.

HOW MANY CAN FIND YOU?

MILITARY DEPLOYMENT RESOURCES
Deployment is hard on all family members who are involved. Many feelings and emotions arise that can cause a lot of tension and uncertainty. This resource includes Family Readiness materials and through this network, families can gain access to help with all phases of the deployment cycle, as well as assistance with military life in general.

MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD
We know in a military family everyone serves and sacrifices. Please remind your children that you are fully aware that KIDS SERVE, TOO! Enjoy the printable to color.

PBS KIDS - SELF AWARENESS
PBS Kids is a great tool that uses characters, your kids know and love, to demonstrate how to discuss their feelings and emotions living in a military family. Parents may explore resources that help them relate to their kiddos about tricky, sometimes hard-to-manage emotions. PBS helps children to understand and develop strategies for expressing themselves in healthy ways.

SESAME STREET FOR MILITARY FAMILIES
This program offers a variety of products designed specifically for young military children. The website offers videos on topics like deployment, homecoming, relocation, self-expression, and more. They also have art activities for children and printable information for parents with a list of helpful links.
