Strengthening Our Military Family      |      Armed Services YMCA Killeen, TX

What We Do

Armed Services YMCA of Killeen offers services to ease the burden of the families of Central Texas junior-enlisted military personnel. Our programs and services are customized to meet the specific needs of the military community in which we operate.

Child Care

The Armed Services YMCA of Killeen offers State licensed, low-cost, high quality before and after school care for elementary school age children throughout the Central Texas Community. The program is offered at 39 elementary school sites in the Killeen, Copperas Cove, Florence, Belton, and Lampasas School Districts all within the walls of the schools. The ASYMCA is trained to offer competent, creative, and concerned supervision.

Call 254.690.YMCA for fees and other information about our Child Care programs. Financial assistance available for qualifying families.

Operation Kid Comfort

We strive to make deployment as easy as possible on the children. Upon request, Operation Kid Comfort provides every child, age six and under, with an original quilt made from photos submitted by his or her parent. For children seven and older, a pillow is made. Each keepsake is hand-made by a volunteer and donated with love and good wishes for the recipient child. The finished quilt or pillow, filled with pictures of family, provide military children with warm memories that help carry them through their parent’s deployment.

Operation: Kid Comfort also provides a rewarding volunteer opportunity for anyone who loves to quilt or sew. The ASYMCA of Killeen is always seeking creative volunteers interested in donating their time and skills toward bringing comfort to a child of a deployed parent. If this sounds like a good fit for you, please email us to inquire about volunteering for this program.

Military Support

We understand that military families are under enormous strain, and that military life comes with unique challenges. Deployments and frequent moves can be a stressful and uncertain time for our nation’s servicemen and women and their families.

The Armed Services YMCA has partnered with YMCAs to offer service members and their families access to fitness centers and respite child care services. The Military Outreach Initiative gives service members and military families extra support and access to vital resources that promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. It’s another way of giving back to those who dedicate themselves to serving our country.

Adopt a Unit

The Armed Services YMCA Killeen sponsors Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Activities for soldiers and families for Fort Hood. The ASYMCA provides space for the activity, food, staff and volunteers to work the functions. The events include: Pre-deployment and redeployment support, Unit Organization Days and and Holiday Event Support. These usually serves between 150 – upwards to 2000 soldiers and families.

Because we know that healthy lifestyles are achieved through nurturing mind, body and spirit, well-being and fitness at the Y is so much more than just working out. Beyond fitness facilities, we provide educational programs to promote healthier decisions, and offer a variety of programs that support physical, intellectual and spiritual strength.
